LEE DILLON Marine, the Rushcutters Bay-based distributor of Riviera/Grand Banks craft, has picked up on American marketing trends by hosting next weekend Australia's inaugural Grand Banks Rendezvous.

Restricted to owners and crew of both Australian-built and Singapore-built Grand Banks cruisers, the event will be held at d'Albora Marinas' Akuna Bay complex. Dillon expects a turn-up of more than 20 craft.

In addition to social activities, Dillon has organised a series of seminars on boat detailing and engine and electronics main tenance. On the Sunday, there will be a short cruise followed by a raft-up and beach barbecue. A representative from American Marine, Singapore, will present prizes for such categories as best-dressed, oldest and newest boat. Similar gatherings are common in the US, with regular cruises and owners' clubs meeting on an annual basis.

YOU MAY not have heard the term User Group yet, but the time will come. There are already 29 User Groups scattered throughout NSW, with 11 groups in the Sydney region, stretching from Tuggerah Lake in the north to Port Hacking in the south. User Groups, made up of boat owners, provide Maritime Services Board personnel with a valuable exchange of views.

The managing director of MSB Waterways, Michael Chapman, says the groups offer "tremendous feedback", particularly on issues such as navigation aids and traffic control. "Above all, they allow us close and regular contact with the people who matter, our customers," he said.

For User Group inquiries, contact the MSB Waterways Access Line on (02) 364 2888.

THE boat broker Jim Winchester, of Brooklyn's Wharf Street Marina Brokerage, has been appointed NSW distributor for the new range of Dominator flybridge cruisers. Winchester expects his first vessel, an 11.58-metre convertible powered by dual 300hp Cummins diesels, to arrive in early March. His second order, a 10.97-metre with the smaller 210hp Cummins engines, is in production at Markham Manufacturing at Port Macquarie.

The Dominator design won widespread praise when it was first released several years ago at the Sydney International Boat Show, and is regarded as an outstanding rough-water hull design. For further information, contact Wharf Street Marina Brokerage on (02) 985 7797.
